The radio sounds great both in and out of repeaters. I called and actually talked to a real person without any crazy secret code followed by #. dual band and dual scan, i personnally love the kg 1000 g , the price , the quality ,very good audio by itself , when i added external speakers , wow hands down the best gmrs radio. The only minor improvements that I would like to see made are as follows: Wouxun KG-XS20G GMRS Base/Mobile Two Way Radio Just got 2 KG 1000 G radios hooked up as my base and so far so good. When using this radio at night, dare I say, that it's Almost' Too Bright.. If there is enough demand, they may take it under serious consideration. When I drove out I kept in constant contact with my base radio and was able to keep up talking way past the mountain I thought would block the signal. This is an advantage of using the programming software from the original equipment manufacturer. The programming cable (PC003) was out of stock when I ordered the KG-1000G but I was able to find another source for the cable. Dubuque is hilly and filled with limestone bluffs, but our initial tests are very favorable. Radios can be confusing to program from the unit. With such a wide receive range it would be a shame if non-GMRS frequencies had to be programmed in as channels before they could be accessed. Sorry, that's all I have right now. Hi Doug, although the KG-1000G does have the capability to send a radio ID on transmit, it is a numeric radio ID only.
